Summertime music

I was surprised today to hear that someone didn't know the song "summertime"! It's such a classic, something everyone should know. There are so many different versions, it's hard to pick one. Ella Fitzgerald does the song justice, so I'll link her version:

A version that I truly love is by Sublime and Pharcyde. If you ignore the video and just listen to the song, it's really nice. It has a good blend of jazz and hip-hop.

Another summery song that came to mind is The Girl from Ipanema. The way the she signs/speaks is a little strange, but it's so perfect for the song. It completely sets the mood.

Although this song isn't very summery, it's still caught my attention every time I listen to it. I like the sound of the telephone ringing for some reason...

I'll finish off with this ad for Grand Marnier.
The music, the colors and the content represent that cool ''joie de vivre" feeling you get, or at least try to get, during the summer. I want to dress up all snazzy and drink Grand Marnier on a balcony in Paris in the late afternoon while fireworks go off in the background!
Here's to dreamin'.

Summertime, Part Deux.

Writing these posts out (in the way that I do, with tons of [useless] detail) takes a long time...
In any case, to continue on from the previous post:

Saturday I ended up heading back out to St. Laurent to celebrate Shaima's birthday with some other Winner's coworkers. We went to Buona Notte, a pretty nice supper club. Ironically, Yili ended up going out to dinner with some of her friends only two restaurants over! I had work the next morning and she didn't want to go clubbing again, so we both ditched our parties and went to find Huilong to bum a lift home haha.

Sunday I had work, then went to the Kirkland for fathers day. We had a nice relaxing BBQ with Anne-Marie, Cindy, my brother and my dad. Crazily enough, I'd spoken with Yili about doing a movie night sometime, and so she decided that night was best. I was up for the adventure, so after taxiing in from the West Island, I took a bus out to Dorval then got a lift from her to Cong's place. We rented Wolfman
and the recent spanish movie with Penelope Cruz. The former was relatively entertaining, but the second was just too complicated for 3 am. We ended up watching Ratatouille, an animation I really love. Unfortunately I missed a bit of it because I was falling asleep. Even worse, I decided not to go to work, without calling in sick or anything. -_-'''' I'm such an idiot! But it was soooo worth it!

Monday we got up late, lazed around a bit, then we went out to play some bball. It was so good to play as well as soak in some sun. Sadly, Cong still overpowered, oversized and beat me, even with his hurt wrists. After that we ate some really good Sushi. Then Yili and I went to Lachine and played with Beibei a bit while enjoying the sunset and the cool breeze on the St. Laurence river. Then, since we're slow, we ended up missing the bus back downtown. Subsequently, she missed her class for the night. That worked out well in the end, because we drove in to montreal and toured the area a bit. We went from Mt. Royal to the lookout in westmount
, we passed by my old house, then went for a walk in old port. Another great night!

Tuesday we met up and went to Mont Royal to take in some sun and relax. As Yili always has her camera, we got all artistic and whipped up some artsy leaf shots XD

Then we went to meet up with Huilong, his cousin and Felix to watch Toy Story 3, which was soooooooooooo good! I want to watch it again! Unfortunately we ruined the after-feelings by watching Jonah Hex (for free), which was horrible. Then we ate at Sports Station. Chicken wanngsss!

That leads to today. This time Yili and I met up in Chinatown, where we amazed by all the nigerian niggers from Niger. We walked over to La Grand Bibliotheque to peruse the books and listen to some interesting jazzy music. Then we got some Bilboquet and rapped our way to Place Desjardins. Our art skills came out again as we attempted to poorly sketch eachother... then off to class for her, home for me.

Ok, so that was a real struggle just to write all that out. I feel like the only adjectives I use are "nice, super, good and interesting" and I use the word "really" too much. Anyway, I'll avoid doing these long "recap" posts in the future. I mean, its nice to have the memories written down, but then they get rushed and seem to be not as good as they were. I just had the urge to enumrate everything we did in the past week for some reason...

Summertime~ Part 1.

No one says it better than this man:

Well, I haven't posted anything in a while, but for good reason. It's summertime! For the past week I've been going out (almost) every day. I was accompanied by my right-hand retard rhymnoceros, Yili, during most of these days. I think we've both been having a blast exploring our city, both downtown and in its surroundings.

Tuesday we watched Xiao Dre pull some flashy jacket moves in Karate Kid.
I probably prefer the first version, but this modern take is a nice hommage. I would prefer Smith over his son, but he becomes endearing the more you watch him. Soon enough you're cheering him and Jackie on against the douchebag asian kids who have sayan-like power. After that we went and had some really good Szechuan!

Thursday I met up with Yili at Beaudry and we looked at cameras, shopped around in the thrift shops and ghetto-fabulous clothing stores. We also ate at Gainsbar, one of the coolest bar's I've ever been to. Then we went out to Lachine and walked along the shoreline with Beibei! One of, if not THE, cutest dog's I've ever met!
After that, we met up with Huilong and Felix and went downtown to watch the NBA finals between the Lakers and the Celtics with Cong. Kobe should be happy, he now has more rings than Shaq. Sports Station was full, but good ol' Boit de Karaoke had more than enough space.

Friday was extra fun! Yili hadn't been clubbing yet(technically) and so we all decided to go out! I chose Tokyo Bar because its small and rather casual. Felix, Cong and Kathryn, Yili's super-friendly filipina friend, came along with us. It was such a great night!

More to come in the next post!

Winners, fabuleux pour si peu!

Timbo Slice
So I've been working at Winners for almost two years now. "Wow," you think "either this guy is a loser who can't get a better job, or he really must love Winners." and you're right! I'm a loser who loves wieners! Ahhh, thankfully I'm not. Actually, I'm sure I could get a much better job in terms of pay/experience, and I don't particularly like doing the things you have to do at Winners. What I do like, however, are the people that work there. This includes (some) of the managers, and almost all of the employees. I've actually made a lot of friends, with people my age, twice my age, a bit younger. All ethnicity's and from all sorts of different backgrounds, its really interesting!
[Random anecdote/ Haha, I even won associate of the quarter a month or two ago because I voted for myself, then I told others to vote for me as a joke, obviously not expecting to get any votes. They all listened to me and voted for me haha!/random anecdote.]
I'm also very comfortable there. I can pretty much have any hours I want, I can change my schedule whenever and I'm so used to the work. For these reasons, I choose to continue working at Winners. Oh, I also live 5 minutes away. That helps too.
------------------------------------

Anyhow, the real reason why I wanted to talk about Winners is all of the new employees that they hire. I work sunday/monday. So there's about a week in between the times I work. I kid you not, pretty much every week they hire at least one new person.

Turns out I was too tired to finish this post and I don't want to finish writing it. Too bad! It'll have to to go up like this.

Inaugural post!

I don't expect anyone apart from myself to read this. That doesn't matter though, does it? I feel like these blogs are meant for their creators anyway. It lets them get their ideas and thoughts out as well as keep a record of moments of their life and things that interested them. That's how I see it at least. If you're lucky you get a couple of friends who follow (who most likely also have blogs). It WOULD be more satisfying to know that someone other than you is following what you're writing, but that would just be a bonus.

Anyway, I just wanted to write a little something as a first post. I'll be setting everything up for a little while. Hopefully this won't get forgotten and I'll actually make pertinent entries. Right now it's 4 am and I should be sleeping. What's keeping me awake is all this new Jazz Hip Hop I recently downloaded. I want to keep listening. This writing gives me something to do at the same time.
Here's some of the stuff I'm listening to : )

I plan on writing about whatever I feel like. Movies I liked, a fun day with friends, just posting pictures. Whatever. I should sleep.

Good'ay mates!

M.A.T. 7

So this past weekend I attended Montreal Annual Tournament. The biggest fighting game tourney of the year, MAT brings in people from Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec city, sometimes the U.S. as well as a large number of Montreal players. It was held out in the basement of a church in Cote-Vertu. The place was lacking set-ups, was pretty far from home and very hot, but it was tons of fun none-the-less.

Thankfully, one of the older players, known as Master (Chef) Mao, was kind enough to cook up some pretty good Pad Thai and Chicken Chop for people who were hungry. It went at 10$, but it was more than worth it.
Turns out playing Street Fighter is really expensive. 15$ entry fee that covers the two days. 10$ for the team tournament Friday, 10$ for the singles tournament Saturday. 10$ for poutine + drinks Friday, 10$ for Mao's food Saturday. 15$ for the MTLSF t-shirt. ~ 7,75$ for the metro tickets to go there. = 77,75$ for two days of tourney fun. :S I'm not complaining, it was worth it.
In the end, our team didn't do so well. We lost twice :( On Saturday, I did much better in the singles tournament. I placed 25th out of 104 entrants, which I'm really happy with. The overall winner and 3rd place went to two Torontonians (>:( boooo), but thankfully 2nd place went to Richard, aka Snafoo from Montreal. Yattade!

I'll leave you with a video of a money match between Eric Hai (3rd place) and Snafoo. It was pretty hype! Talk pas shit!
